Can the range of precision-guided missiles delivered to Ukraine be locked?

Upvotes

Countries supporting Ukraine are hesistant to send long-range missiles (like ATACMS) because they could be used to strike deep into Russian teritory.

Would it be possible to limit by means of software and/or hardware where strikes would be possible? In this case only at GPS coordinates within Ukraine. Or would this be impossible to do because the weapons system would always be hackable?

Can someone help me find camera projector necklace video

Upvotes

Many years ago like probably back in 2007 or 2008 I came across a video of a camera that he put around his neck and it was also a projector. It kinda had motion control from colored tape on his finger tips where he could move the pictures on the projector if that makes sense. This is all while he is wearing the device. The video was a trailer for it. It was a concept they were trying to make. Im not sure if they actually made it. Back then i thought it was so cool and i can not remember what is was called or even find that video. If anyone knows what I am talking about and can tell me where i can find that video it would be much appreciated. I love weird tech that never quite made it and were forgotten

How Do I Change The Factory Language Setting On My CPU?

Context: I just got a new PC that was installed in Hungarian. I went to change the language to US - English, performed all the necessary steps, and it works; however there are still quite a few times my PC will use Hungarian. How can I remedy this? Its the same for my web browsing (even though it's set to English).

Thank you!

My USB joystick's left stick can't reach upper left corner

Hi there! When I open the Game Controllers program and open my USB joystick's properties, I can see that my left stick can't reach upper left corner. I calibrated it multiple times, but it seems that when I try to reach the upper left corner, the X axis can't reach zero. It could reach the corner when I pressed down the left stick. Thanks in advance!

Phone Spam Calls?? How is this possible??

So I have a specific question. Yesterday and this morning, I made several calls to a “Hudson” Imaging Medical service to schedule a medical appointment.

1 hour after the last call, I got a spam call from Hudson Medical center (a separate entity, but same name)

I called both Hudson centers, and they deny ever calling me. I also called AT&T and Apple to ask how it was possible to receive a spam email spoofing as Hudson Medical Center just an hour after calling Hudson Imaging Medical. Everyone assured me that security was top notch.

Can someone please help?? How is that possible? I received a spam call from Hudson Medical EVER before today.

It would be WAYYY too big of a coincidence, and I do not understand how it is possible.

Please lmk (: thanks!

Locked iPhone XR

A few weeks ago, I gave my mother-in-law my old phone. I called my service provider and had them deactivate the phone and I reset it. After we got it set up for her it updated during the night and when she woke up there was a six digit pin And I’ve never used a six digit pin before so we have no idea what the password is or why it was set. We tried a few different things on and off and it is now saying it is unavailable. What would be your next step to to make this phone useful again?

Is it okay to remove the letter part of a key on a Chromebook?

Hey so I've had this Chromebook since about 2017, and I noticed the keys are pretty dirty underneath (random crumbs from when I was younger and would eat with the laptop). I was wondering if it's okay for me to just pull off the letter part of the key to clean underneath it. I don't want to take the whole key apart, just the letter case thing that sits on top of the button. Will it damage the keyboard if I do that?

Use dual monitor setup with personal PC and work MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I have had a dual monitor setup at home in my study for several years now. I have a Dell desktop that is around 5 years old, and two Dell U2417H monitors connected to it with HDMI cables. I just started a new job that is fully remote, and I want to continue to use my same desk for working. From my company I received a MacBook Pro along with a Bluetooth Mac keyboard and mouse. I work so much better with dual monitors (in my past in-office jobs I always used dual monitors with the laptop in a docking station) and want to be able to use my two existing monitors to work on the MacBook, but also be able to use them for gaming, internetting, Youtube, etc. stuff on my personal computer. What is the best way for me to make this happen?

I bought this thinking being able to switch with the push of a button would be nice, but I need the monitor output to be able to go to two monitors. (The MacBook only has USB-C inputs, but I bought a hub for it already that has an HDMI port and two USB-A ports, btw). I was thinking I needed an HDMI splitter, but found out that would only mirror the display. The switch I bought has 1 output for HDMI that is labeled "monitor" and two USB-A outputs labeled "keyboard" and "mouse," respectively. I'm fine keeping the separate mouse and keyboard for each computer. If I connect one of the monitors with a USB cable to one of those USB output ports, will that work? It seems like it should, but the "keyboard" and "mouse" labels have me paranoid. Any downsides? Should I buy something different?

My keyboard works but won’t type on my computer

Hi, I woke up today and my keyboard didn’t work. It worked just fine yesterday. I tried unplugging and plugging it, even in different usb holes. I turned my computer on and off. Then I wonder if my keyboard was broken so I plugged it in my laptop and it worked again. So I went back to my computer aaaannnddd nothing… does anyone know what’s wrong?

Edit: After 5 hours I finally managed to fix it.😅 Thank you for your ideas/help.

Paying for 1 gig internet but getting 10 MPS upload and download

Trying to understand why this is, we have AT&T fiber internet and the standard modem and WIFI that AT&T gave us, I have my computer hooked up to a netgear powerline and still get these slow speeds.

looking at getting a mesh WIFI, but will that help get me quicker speeds even with the netgear powerline? We don't have ethernet ports though out the house so will the mesh WIFI still be good?

Chromecast option but for files

When I want to put a movie file on my TV to watch I have the option of plugging it into a USB port but my computer monitor does not have the ability to do the same without a connected computer.

Is there a product that can run video playback on my monitor from a device similar to a chromecast that allows me to load a movie file onto it directly without having to stream it? Thanks in advance.

Cheap "geofencing"/sensors to track vehicles entering/leaving garage?

Hi all,

I am looking for an easy (and hopefully cheap) diy way to track if a vehicle is in our garage or not - so I don't have to take a trip to the basement to find out. We have one entrance/exit and about 15 trucks. I am basically thinking of something like an NFC tag in/on the truck and a couple scanners along the ramp to tell their direction. Something with like 15ft of range.

I have enough programming experience to hack something together, but never really did much with the hardware side of things.. Does anyone know of something like this before I get too lost in the weeds here? I don't want a GPS service/solution as that is pretty overkill and this is a niche use case that right now is just for to me to perform maintenance on the IT equipment in the trucks..

Thanks!

Drive mapping fails ethernet, but succeeds with WiFi

Using Win11 on both PC's. Oddest thing I have seen. I have done a complete dns cache reset with no success. Both adapters have the same dns, netbios (enabled) settings. Only difference is jumbo frames is set to 4K on the ethernet adapter.

Anyone ever come across something like this? Any ideas how to resolve?

Can IT detect broadband vs mobile hoptspot?

Asking for a friend, she has a remote job offer and they explicitly said they want her to connect via a cable broadband ISP but she is semi retired, lives in an RV, and is always traveling so she uses a Verizon mobile Hotspot to connect.

They said they would remote in to the laptop they will provide.

Can they tell if her connection is from a mobile network? This isn't a data intensive job so a slower connection shouldn't be an issue. Is the broadband requirement a security issue?

Does movement effect Ethernet?

Hi,

I tried googling it but I think my question is too dumb for google to understand.

My cable management is non existent so I have ethernetcables at my feet when I sit behind my desktop.

Now I was wondering, if I was kicking the cable or moving it back and forth with my feet. Would it have an affect on the data transmission through the cable? Or can it cause lag or some form of interference?

Thank you in advance!

Should I get a MacBook Air M2 (16/512Gb) or MacBook Pro M2 13' (16/512Gb)?

So as you can tell I'm confused about which laptop to buy. I'm mostly going to be using it for Uni work plus the occasional music production and Minecraft. A con that I see with going for the MacBook Air option is that it doesn't have fans. However, with the MacBook pro it has an outdated webcam and has thicker bezels which is a turn off for me. To make it even more confusing, with student discount the MacBook pro would only be a 100 AUD more than the MacBook air. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What's an AIO app like 'meta messenger' but not? for Android

Since the whole "America might ban tik tok/ Facebook lobbying to be the only social media platform ever" thing, my friend who only used messenger' to contact me/ used Facebook moderately/ used Instagram for his independent artwork is now fully off meta and it's products including wats app, it's owned by meta as well.

My question is what's an AIO app that's sends video clips, voice notes, makes calls, txt, and I can upload a video without a file size limit without me using snap chat, discord on top of reddit?

Help Please! I need to create shortcuts to play sounds on my MacBook, for ClassIn App

hi! I have a unique situation.

So, I teach English on a software called ClassIn. I have a bunch of short sound clips on my MacBook (e.g. applause, victory sounds, trumpets sounds etc. each about 3 seconds or so) ...

So what I want to do is, I want to create a shortcut, e.g. control+A and then the "applause" sound plays on my MacBook.
The thing is, I don't want to have it play on my external speaker (because then the sound doesn't come through clearly on my students' end) ... I want it to play on my internal speakers (I guess that's what its called), so then it plays through the software, but I still want to hear it. I think this part is not the part I should worry about ... for now I just want to set sounds to play when pressing shortcuts. But how!? Please if there is a non-programmers way to do it, that would be amazing. Thanks!
