Intentionally desecrating a copy of the Quran is punishable by imprisonment in some countries and could lead to a death sentence in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Pakistan, or up to life imprisonment in Pakistan, according to Article 295-B of the Penal Code.

Since they are apparently in Europe, it would likely not be against the law.

If you wanna get super technical it can’t possibly be a Quran if it’s not a book written in Arabic…. According to one of the first chapters of the Quran. So if this Quran was written in another language other than Arabic they might have a loophole. …. Good luck explaining that to fanatics on either side though

Back to the point, there has been a number of problems from digital versions. For the specific question, it would seem that you would have to delete the PDF while it was in use, which isn't easily possible on most operating systems. And you would also have to be caught in some way doing so.

It does in fact prove that islam is not a religion of peace, and freedom cannot coexist with islam as put forth by the quran. TBF freedom also cant exist with christianity or catholicism as put forth by the bible.

The only way religions survive the test of time is if they change to something gentle and putely spiritual that cannot be used to start a fight. Any spiritual belief that supports repression of others will get stamped out by free-thought eventually.

I read earlier that burning the Quran is a halal way to dispose of an unwanted book. But if you do it out of malace it isn't respectful. think you can only bury it in the ground, moving water, or burnt it... Essentially returning it to the earth to respectfully retire a book.

Strangely it is not halal to delete a PDF version of the book.

Edit: I said haram instead of halal.

Edit 2: the topic of deleting a PDF of interestingly nuanced but not always Haram. Worth a gander, if you're interested.

Remember up until 15 years ago the catholic church said limbo existed where all babies who weren't baptized went....then all of a sudden it is gone! And limbo was only created in the middle ages. Yes USA puts a lot more emphasis on personal freedom vs societies interest, which means personal freedom of speech is more easily sacrificed in EU countries in certain situations. This however doesn't mean EU countries dont have the same laws that's in the first amendment.

Actually, there are a couple laws broken. The first and most obvious is littering on public property. The second is setting fire to another's property, if it causes damage (likely to that granite), is a misdemeanor in many places. If the fire spreads or harms someone, then it becomes a felony, but given the green grass, this is unlikely.

There's also questions of a hate crime nature. This person isn't just burning rubbish in their backyard, their burning in public intending to incite others and knowingly provoking them. I mean, you can see in the comments in this thread that atheists just want to violate others.

No. Most people plead guilty. A shocking amount plead guilty even if they are not guilty. Because it is often more beneficial to just take a lesser sentence with a plea than fight it, potentially lose, and get a much harsher sentence.

I can't find a specific number for Norway. In America it is 95%

I can't imagine it is highly different in Norway especially if their prison system is not a super terrible sentence.

your lawyer can always get the charges down if you plead not guilty, but the judge never gives you a light sentence for pleading guilty

In America, you rarely see people plea guilty on their first appearance. Usually you plead not guilty until your attorney has reached a plea agreement with the prosecutor otherwise you go to trial. There's also an Alford plea where you pretty much say "I'm not guilty, but if we try this case there's probably enough evidence to convict me."

I have in fact not seen Better Call Saul. But also getting off free here when there is evidence that you are guilty is very hard since we don't use juries but rather legal experts to determine whether or not the law was broken.

Quran is the literal word of Allah, according to Muslims. There are no footnotes that say it should be taken symbolically or with context.

It’s not supposed to be interpreted any other way. My parents are liberal Muslims and don’t believe this, but can’t defend their point of view outside of some obscure hadiths. When I was a practicing Muslim, I had an imam very clearly explain this to me.

The Bible doesn’t say you should interpret it symbolically. It’s just that modern Christian’s ignore the parts of the Bible where it says being gay is a sin and should be punished with a death sentence, and so on because they realized that it’s important to fit into the western society if they want to retain any sort of relevance. Content wise the Bible is not much better. It promotes homophobia, sexism, torture, death for non believers, slavery and a whole lot of other questionable things. The Old Testament is much worse in that regard than the new testament, but both have it.

Also a lot of people exist who do take the Bible literally.

Different Christian sects interpret the Bible differently. Fundamentalist Protestants, most notoriously Evangelicals like the Southern Baptists in the USA, mostly insist it's the literal word of God.

Catholics, the largest sect of Christianity, do not take the Bible literally.

I agree, but there are clearly bits that were never meant to be literal, like a lot of Psalms - they are clearly prayers. And I don't expect that people believe that there was a real Prodigal Son, or a Good Samaritan. These were made up to illustrate a point. Perhaps it is real that Jesus spoke those words, but he never said that they weren't real stories.

But nowadays, mainstream Christians accept that most of the Old Testament is creation myths. The biggest surprise to me was that the key event of the Jewish faith, the exodus from Egypt is probably entirely fictional - there is no evidence of Jewish slaves in Egypt, especially not 600,000, despite the Egyptians being great record keepers. And the Israeli lands at the time were part of the Egyptian Empire.
