Actually I’ve seen lots of interviews with the assistants. Seems most of them are otherwise (non magic show) talented, like very talented. But!! They complain that they hate performing the shows because there isn’t any skill on their part, it’s more so things like “I can fit inside this leather chair cramped for 5 minutes, they put a blanket over the chair, and I pull a lever. It ejects me out and I sit on the outside, boom magic girl appears from nowhere” meanwhile that same person is a world class performer for actual shows like broadway or whatnot, and have spent countless hours becoming as skilled as they are, just to then make way more money and get way larger applause simply for performing “tricks”.

Honestly must suck to have the choice of “tons of cash but I feel like a fraud” and “I feel great, successful, and have pushed myself to a level most other humans are incapable of, buuuuuut I’d make way more ignoring all that skill and performing magic..”

My dog has the opposite problem, she is forever getting sucked into the void of the couch, which wouldn’t be a problem However I have those stupid electric recliners and she is like a ducking rat in there. Had to repair the wiring 3 times before I realized it was her!
