This is one of those scams that when you can perform it yourself, you think it’s too obvious to fool people.
It’s only when you either watch someone else do it, or film yourself performing it that you see its true effect on an audience.

u/Anon-fickleflake Feb 04 '23
Let's see you do it

Bruh don’t do the armchair Reddit analyst dirty like that 😂. Lil bro just wants to express his overwhelming intellect

It's not hard to do lmao. You need to watch someone show you and you'll be able to do it, then train so it's a performance as well that hides the tricks better

u/callmebrynhildr Feb 04 '23
Every time he pushes the shell with the pea forward, he palms the pea and very discreetly places it into the shell he wants it in. The tennis ball, as mentioned by another comment, is placed in the cup around the 9 second mark of the video. Of all the videos ive seen from this guy, this one is probably the most doable and can be learned in probably a day, but not as graceful as this guy though.

u/JulianAnonymous Feb 03 '23
The tennis ball at the end is what threw me off more than anything.

u/krazybananada Feb 03 '23 edited Feb 03 '23
The thing is, that's just as easy as hiding the pea.
The pea (there's far more than one usually) is always in the one he's going to flip over immediately when he turns the empty cup back. Same with the tennis ball, it's just hard/near impossible to see when performed well.
If you want the trick spoiled, watch him put the tennis ball in at 09 seconds left
Though I know how every step of this is done, this guy's slight of hand is far superior than mine.
A guy on Pen and Tellers show ended this trick with like several oranges and a beach ball or something in quick succession. That was the best rendition of this I've seen!

The pea is a soft ball. When he first pushes the glass forward the pea pops out of the back and he palms it. It’s one of those tricks that when you know how to spot it it’s easy to see.
4
u/Scared_Ad_3132 Feb 04 '23
The pea is a rubber ball, so it can not actually stay under the shells as you push the shell forward because once it contacts the backside of the shell the shell is forced to roll over the ball instead of the ball staying inside the shell. Its a bit like how you can use cylinders like logs of wood to roll some heavy object forward. The object rolls over the cylinders, the forward motion of the object on top means that the cylinder is rolling into the opposite direction which means the two objects are moving away from each other.
5
u/est1979 Feb 04 '23
Yeah, knowing the trick he favors his right hand each time and needs to mix it up.
3
u/Scared_Ad_3132 Feb 04 '23
The pea (there's far more than one usually)
I would say that in most routines there is just one pea. Some routines use two, but in the classic routine that comes with the shells if you buy it from a magic shop there is just one.

Explain then how the pea disappears when placing the shit glass over it. I need this one explained

u/KaneK89 Feb 10 '23
0:51 he brings the cup towards his body, off the table, and his other hand gestures - he's tossing the ball into the metal cup. Either he holds it in place with his pinky until he puts it down or he's just quickly moving the cup so it doesn't fall out.
Otherwise, the sleight of hand was quite good.
1
u/JulianAnonymous Feb 10 '23
I can't believe I didn't notice that good catch. Once you pointed it out it was clear as day. Still, this guy has really good sleight of hand.
2
u/KaneK89 Feb 10 '23
For sure! Also good misdirection. I suspect that's why it goes unnoticed. He's talking about the shells and pea, and moving that hand around, then quickly makes a gesture in an area you're not currently attending to. He's basically keeping your attention focused on one place and then doing stuff outside of your attended zone.

u/BronsBones Feb 03 '23
You can notice where the pea goes if you keep an eye on the posture of his right hand
25
u/whyamisosoftinthemid Feb 04 '23
Speak for yourself. I can't see it at all.
5
u/greenrangerguy Feb 04 '23
You can tell because when he reveals it he tells you and shows you where it went. Pretty easy to follow.
4
u/ZeAthenA714 Feb 04 '23
Whenever he has his ring and pinky finger retracted, the pea is in his hand. As soon as he extends those fingers, it means he put the pea under the last shell he touched.
That's a pretty massive tell if you know to look for it. If he kept his fingers in the same posture all throughout the routine it would be impossible to know where the pea ends up.
1
u/chefkittious Feb 06 '23
He keeps the pee under his pinky and when he releases it his band becomes relaxed! Thank you.

u/Caring_Cactus Feb 04 '23
This guy is amazing with his hands

u/certifiedprawn Feb 03 '23
how tf
1
u/Corr521 Feb 07 '23
He keeps it in his hand, he keeps a few fingers in his right hand curled because he's holding it and then they straighten out when he drops the pea down with his hand covering our view while he drops a shell down onto it as he pulls in.

u/MuchoMasticator Feb 04 '23

Just follow where he opens his 3 folded fingers in his right hand...
2
u/TwentyTwoTwelve Feb 04 '23
Right?
This guy has definitely practiced and if you didn't know the trick he'd do OK but for anyone that's seen this a few times he's pretty obvious.
He only ever palms the pea with his right hand and while his motion for it is smooth he leaves his fingers wide open when he doesn't have it and closed when he does.
If he kept his fingers closed all the time and only opened them to palm the pea or even just switched it up between his left and right hand it would improve the performance significantly and make it much harder to follow.

u/Unfair_Piccolo6240 Feb 04 '23
I saw a tiktok about someone explaining it and now I can’t un see it, in ny we have a bunch of these and I might just play the next time Lmao

I figured it out after watching the video about 20x if I'm lying and about 50x if I'm being truthful lol

u/le_dankest_memez Feb 04 '23
I saw his right hand holding the pea during the last trick, couple of fingers curled holding the pea

It’s because he moved the pea before he covered it with the shot glass, and then the other thing, and then the sticker.
Oldest hustle, new props.

u/Bleezze Feb 04 '23
This black magic fucker subreddit has become literally just magic tricks. Maybe everyone here are new and wouldn't know this, but a long time ago this was not the case. It's still entertaining but it's not at all the same thing as it used to be
1
u/Kickherrightinthepus Feb 07 '23
He is simultaneously rolling the pea and shuffling at the same time. His hand cover the rolling pea while ur focused on the the tips of his fingers. I cant explain the rest

I know how he does it, I know how it is going to go, but watching someone skilled execute the tricks is always a joy. This is the sleight-of-hand version of The Aristocrats.
Always a joy to watch an accomplished person perform.

u/Living_Lecture Feb 04 '23
I could do this and finesse somebody it’s just slight of hand and the angle as he’s sliding them they go behind his arm and he lifts it up slightly throwing another shell over the pea in a swift motion all it takes is a hour or two of practice and test audience

"Oh.. yeah, I know that one."
"Yeah, ok,, he's palmed it and moved it."
"Ok, he did it again. And again, even with the bigger containers and..."
"OK, NOW WHERE THE FUCK DID THE TENNIS BALL COME FROM???"
Edit: Never mind me. He puts the tennis ball in the cup at the 51s mark."

u/Inchkeaton Feb 04 '23
50s in, clearly putting the tennis ball in the cup. Easy to spot when you can rewind / pause the video!

It doesn't matter how many times i see this specific trick, no matter who does it or anything and no matter how much i know how it's done. I'm always so blown away by how well everyone does this.

Guessed it correctly 100% of the time, just keep an eye for his right hand movements.

He lifts a bit too much. I was able to follow it and knew where the pea was each time and could see the lift when he placed the ball. Much better than I could do, but far from black magic.

u/Big_Conversation_823 Feb 04 '23
I saw every move he made and guessed correctly, the guys damn good but if you know what to look for you start to see it.
