He kept the pants really stiff and wore a longer jacket it works a lot better but costs more money. Man was committed to this one

u/bigwinw Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23
Looks like he even put in some mannequin legs into the pants

u/UnbelievableRose Feb 05 '23
Yeah heās definitely doing something differently- the slant of the calves here is impossible to achieve with the method in that video.

u/nicksama88 Feb 05 '23
Iām guessing he has a weight in the upper portion of the jeans to act as a counterbalance.

TLDW: Is wearing a long Flannel that's cut in the back so it hangs. Is also wearing /holding a long pair of pants that are cut part way so he can hold them up, and wear them at the knees . He then shifts his entire body to the right so it looks like he's floating but is actually still wearing the pants. The waist area of the pants are stuffed. The Flannel and Pants are blocking the shifted torso.

And here I thought he was just a double amputee holding onto a pair of animatronic legs

Thanks for the link, I watched it on mute and it felt like the guy was over explaining the trick. Maybe Iām wrong. Nonetheless it was a cool trick. Cheers

u/Korncakes Feb 05 '23
Dude, watch it with volume and see how long you last. Over explaining the trick is a fucking understatement.

THey do this so youtube can pay them for the video. Videos must be over 5 minutes long to be considered "quality content". SO he is bullshytting to get monetized. 90% of youtube videos are like this. Over 10 minutes u get the most amount of money.
It will be like "how to plant a plant" and the video will be 11 minutes long...Now u know why. Kudos!

Yeah it literally only needed the 20 seconds at 3:25. The 'Skip to highlight' comes in really useful for this kind of stuff. I think it's from the sponsor block extension I'm using?

It's a dude walking around in squat mode. The torso is mostly fake as well as the upper legs and waist. I'd imagine it's pretty easy to see from behind this guy, but facing forward it creates a cool illusion.

u/MrK521 Feb 04 '23
This explains the setup, but itās also edited lol. Play it frame by frame and watch the letters on the background under his shirt.

Serious uneducated answer: Likely a frame that he sits in, and the top half of the pants are weighted to counterbalance his torso. That's why he kind of waddles around. Probably doesn't look too convincing from behind.

u/OneMoistMan Feb 05 '23
You over complicated it. All you need is scissors and clothes that are too large. Someone posted the explanation vid above

This is what happens when you volunteer for being sawn in two, then in the middle of the act the magician has a heart attack

u/billwoo Feb 04 '23
Can someone explain WHY he does this?

u/ImBruceWayne69 Feb 05 '23
There are a lot of really good health benefits of sawing yourself in half.

He is crouched over, from any other angle the trick doesn't work. His legs wobble rather than walk because he can only move his legs below the knees without breaking the illusion. Imagine bending your butt out as far back as possible while keeping your torso at the same spot as your feet. The shirt dangles from his torso to make it look like it is him standing flat

Ask Steve Fearson. He invented that illusion and David Copperfield used it on one of his specials.

First thing I noticed is that he is leaning while performing this which indicates that he is having to shift the center of gravity over his feet so he doesn't fall over. Second thing I noticed is that the ankles don't move normally so that tells me those legs are fake. Third thing I notice is that the hands never move at all which indicate that the torso is just a shell cover for his real body. Fourth thing I notice is that his neck looks like a turtles neck coming out of its shell which indicates he is most likely sitting on his knees with his neck leaning forward. Conclusion is that he is sitting on his knees on a double wide "chair" with him sitting on his knees on one side of the "chair" and the chairs legs are miniature stilts that are attached to the other side of the "chair". In order to not fall over he had to make the whole thing lean to shift the center of gravity over the fake feet and stop from falling over uncontrollably. But the thing I cant figure out is what his real arms and hands are doing behind the fake torso shell to keep his balance. The camera man was part of the illusion because he had to keep down far enough to not see him sitting behind it.

It is mainly an illusion. You have a fake waist attached to your knees and a fake stomacher attached to your torso. You do have to be pretty flexible and constantly be leaning over to one side, and standing up straight he appears to have his torso and legs jutting out in front. Very simple but very effective.

Look at his pose, always at an angle, same with the feet, barely moves his knees as well while having a wide torso. He's obviously crouching at an angle

You just have to get to a place where no amount of attention is ever enough. Most of us cannot get there.

u/Sxwrd Feb 05 '23
Itās all in the angle. Thereās absolutely nothing special about this illusion. What youāre thinking he can possibly do is exactly what heās doing.

He cut his legs off, then picked them up to hold onto with his torso.
