Ok I’m going to show my age but now I have to know. I’ve partaken in lots of anime but what’s an idol manager?
130
u/LegendRazgriz Feb 06 '23
irl, they are the sort of guys that figure out schedules for them, work out PR and other sorts of public appearances, and at times can also be emotional support or just someone to talk to. "Producer" is also the term used by the Idolmaster series games to refer to the nameless player character (which is supposed to be you).

Pretty much? So's Love Live, they're owned by the same parent company. The difference is you get more up close and personal with each individual girl, with varying degrees of flirting, being an older sibling figure, a good friend or playmate, or just keep being looked at like you're garbage (I love Madoka Higuchi. The feeling is not mutual.)

Idolmaster, stylised as Idolm@ster, is a franchise about young girls and women who are idols, essentially performing songs and dance, appearing in films, tv shows, adverts and variety of media related productions.
An idol manager is an individual who makes sure their clients, the idols, are able to do their job. Making sure they are healthy and happy, ranging from gifts to public relations.
It's been a while since I followed the franchise, please feel free to correct or amend my comment.

In Japanese culture, these are known as Itasha cars, aka "painful" or "cringe" cars. The owners know full well that it's weird and they embrace it.

Went snowboarding in Japan, and a crew of at least 40 of these kinds of guys were out there with hentai boards and attire, many dudes were in maid miniskirts. It was hilarious, and afaict they were fully self aware and just having fun with it.
Like, it's weird, but probably not smelly basement dweller weird.
Edit - Outsiders laughed and made jokes with them. It wasn't like people were weirded out. I don't even recall parents freaking out or scurrying kids away from them, but I don't remember many kids period.

Was teaching my girlfriend to ski on gay ski week. We were both easing down a blue when a bunch of skiers holding pride flags in their underwear scream by us (they gave us space)
They were good skiers too, riding switch, hitting 360s off rollers. Just a good time all round. Plus it was fucking cold that day so props for the undies

The main difference I’ve seen between itasha in Japan and the US is that in Japan the graphics are usually applied to modified and high performance sedans, hot hatches, and sports cars, kind of as a final touch, whereas in the US they are often applied to completely stock everyday drivers, and the wrap becomes the sole focus of the build.

He gets weird looks and comments all the time. It just doesnt bother him. He likes what he likes so he rocks it. And the ones on his car are fairly mild. Hes got some... explicit ones he sticks inside his lunch kit or all over his bong and other random placess. Those are the ones that really get me. But to each their own. Hes a chill dude and not weird at all when talking/hanging with him. Just likes his interesting stickers
