They aren’t even cult movies, they are blockbusters. Both movies were top box office performers.

I’ve only ever heard the term in reference to movies that did not have a widespread appeal and developed strong and active fanbases outside the mainstream. Which doesn’t really include either of these series in my opinion, but I’m not the law so if you do you.

I guess it is up to an individual person what they consider a cult movie. I just go by a general definition of a "movie that has a dedicated follower base" - it doesn't have to have initially bombed. But yeah, it's just splitting hairs, and besides the point I was making.
