Piercing jewelry is not magnetic actually. It will however fuck up an mri. But you can take all the magnets you want to my face and the worse thing that will happen is maybe il bite ya. Depends.

Lol. The first time I played Wii I didn't know you could customize the players. There was a mii that looked exactly like the host of the party I was at. I spent the whole time thinking it was an incredible coincidence that he had found a video game with a character that looked just like him.

29

u/the_crystal_onix 13d ago

My friend made a Hitler Mii without my knowledge. I freaked out when he randomly showed up on Mario Kart, chilling along the road in a little kart on the side of the road.

7

u/randcount6 12d ago

how close do they let you get? you probably could do the hair and mustache, but without the uniform and swastika armband it might not be too obvious.

7

u/the_crystal_onix 12d ago

Pretty close! Minus the insignia obviously lol. But there’s the option to shrink the mustache, and she nailed his sunken eyes and combover

I laughed to hard at this.

I’m honestly nervous to even say anything. My daughter is still a toddler and I don’t want to say something that Karma will think is funny.

129

u/AGallonOfKY12 13d ago

When I was like 17 I said I wanted a mentally challenged child to watch him run into a glass door. Fast forward to 34 and I have a 6 year old autistic son, and my normal teenage daughter is the one running into glass doors. Also I'm kinda happy it worked out like this because little dude straight pulls me out of depressive slumps with his excitement and wonder. He's just too damn clever for his own good, like when he closes the glass door on his sister.

38

u/Nooneatall2122 13d ago

Yeah we have 6 kids and trust all of them have their own personalities and it’s awesome. My favorite is watching the youngest clown all of them.

9

u/fhjuyrc 13d ago

I also have six kids but I’m the clown and their personalities recede every day as memories of the outside world fade

Ask him how he does it at airports

446

u/CoasterThot 13d ago

I know this is just a joke, but piercings don’t really set off metal detectors! I was even able to go into an MRI machine with them, recently. It seems most piercing-grade metal isn’t affected by magnets.

143

u/RiemertVRijn 13d ago

Most? 😳

212

u/CoasterThot 13d ago

Only saying “most” because some people are idiots who use things they shouldn’t, and I’ve also found a cheap nose ring on Amazon that stuck to magnets.

54

u/WhipTheLlama 13d ago edited 12d ago

Metal detectors are able to detect non-ferrous metals, so it doesn't matter if they're magnetic or not.

Piercings don't normally set off metal detectors because they're not configured to be that sensitive. They are certainly capable of detecting even very small amounts of metal, and the larger the group of piercings are, the more likely that they'll cross the threshold and set off the alarm.

14

u/RevolTobor 12d ago

I had a pair of black leather boots when I was a teenager that would set off the metal detectors at the airport all the time. Turns out it was the metal rings for the shoelaces. Had to get searched with the handheld metal detector and get padded down every time.

At some point I think body modification goes from just aesthetic preferences to being full-on body dysmorphia and mental health issues. Not saying he has to be clinically insane to do all that, but rather he probably did it due to some deep-seated, irrational insecurities about his body, and/or some insecurities about a lack of control over his body and appearance.

Like nobody gets plastic surgery when they’re completely secure and satisfied in their appearance and body (Not talking about reconstructive plastic surgery). Same idea here

153

u/jazzkott 13d ago

Not saying he has to be clinically insane to do all that

there is no way this is comfortable. I would say he has very bad body dysmorphia.

35

u/SnooMaps9864 13d ago

He’d have to have body dysphoria to put himself at this great of a risk. It can be incredibly dangerous to have that many piercings in. That’s 100+ holes that can easily be infected if they aren’t properly cleaned. The piercings around the mouth are the most concerning because they’re going to scrape away at his teeth and cause oral damage. Given the amount of metal he has in it won’t be long until he does permanent damage (assuming he already hasn’t)

21

u/hXcPickleSweats 13d ago

It has to be uncomfortable and inconvenient. I have 1 dermal on my cheekbone and it gets annoying and caught. I also have a few crazy piercings in my ears that can sometimes be uncomfortable to sleep on. I couldn't imagine having a face full like that. He must not sleep very well at all unless it's strictly on his back.

Radiographer here, we actually usually use a metal detector wand to check for any missed / hidden metal objects before we let patients into the main MRI room. You'd be surprised at the things people forget has metal in it.

10

u/Ilikeburgers6508 13d ago

Can you give examples I’m curious, has there ever been a case of someone making a mistake and forgetting that something was metal and then they go in?

17

u/-dab8- 13d ago

So, most piercings are not magnetic (thank heavens), so they are not at risk of being pulled on, but can heat up and even cause burns depending on where and what they are. Also when we image we get a black hole around the piercings, so it less than ideal if the piercings are in the area we are looking.

As for things that have made it into the scanning room that are bad or less than ideal, goodness the list is long. A coworker fried someone’s hearing aids, we often have people with ear or nipple piercings they can’t remove, some partials (dental) are metallic, and some are even magnetic (coworker had a ladies false teeth come out of her mouth and stick to the magnet top, kinda wish I’d seen that one actually), extra scary is if there is metal in the eyes that we don’t know about (we screen pretty intensely for this), aneurysm clips, pacemaker/defibrillator, etc.

11

u/Ilikeburgers6508 13d ago

Very interesting, thanks, I could imagine mistakes are rare considering how bad it could potentially be. The story about the teeth is pretty funny it made me laugh but the eyes and/or anything else internal sounds like it could get pretty gruesome quick, I’m gonna do some research myself to see if I can find anybody who’s a victim to this dire mistake.

10

u/-dab8- 13d ago

Yeah, it can be REAL bad. It’s exponential to the amount of magnetic metal. Paper clip? You’ll feel it pulling hard but you can hold it.

Fire extinguisher? Would be a missile that you couldn’t hold on to no matter how hard you tried.

Once a hospital bed got sucked into the magnet. The patient died. (Thank heavens not at my hospital but still horrific.)

8

u/Ilikeburgers6508 13d ago

Truly sounds like a horrific way to go and especially witness. I’m pretty sure I saw an image of a hospital bed that had gotten sucked into one but luckily nobody was inside and it could have been a prop to demonstrate what could happen, you mind me asking how you came about working in that field?

8

u/-dab8- 13d ago

I started out in x-ray, worked in x-ray for a while, and then trained on the job and took a separate course/test to be certified in MRI.

I remember seeing a picture a while back, I think on r/piercing, of someone’s little sketch of a face and all their jewelry laid out on the paper so they wouldn’t forget.

13

u/vorticon_mafia 13d ago

I’ve barely got any hardware anymore but I definitely had to do this pre-surgery a few times when I was a walking magnet. You think you know what all your jewellery looks like…until you take it all out and have to play BodyMods Operation Guessing Game Edition till it all looks okay

28

u/Hentai_bits 13d ago

majority of piercings aren’t magnetic for reasons specifically like that

23

u/honest-miss 13d ago

True, but before getting an MRI they tell you to remove all piercings, and there aren't a lot of people willing to test the quality of their jewelry in the most catastrophic (and expensive) way possible.

9

u/Hentai_bits 13d ago

true just wanted to put that out there though cause i think most people forget that when they make magnet jokes about piercings

Also a good way to prove of some is using fake SS lol. Not only is his face getting pulled but he finds out he got duped out of some sterling

8

u/willfullyspooning 13d ago

Many are also implant grade titanium. Nickel allergies are super common and stainless steel can have nickel in it

5

u/eatsbaseballcards 13d ago

This. Good quality jewelry is made of implant grade titanium and is highly polished to be very smooth. Of course there are other materials but for most common types of jewelry this is the standard.

6

u/dubschloss 13d ago

Piercings nowadays are primarily implant certified titanium or steel, which are hypoallergenic. Any reputable shop wouldn't be caught dead piercing people with sterling silver or stainless steel. Sterling silver is a terrible choice for piercings because it typically has nickel or copper in it, which a large portion of people have sensitivities or allergies to. Stainless steel has about 8-10% nickel content.

Cost more than a minimum wage paycheck for all that. Would be decades worth of money at that rate for cosmetic surgery, piercings, and tattoos so has access to a lot of money regardless of where he lives.

43

32

u/SilverNiko 13d ago

My girlfriend is pierced a lot because she does it herself, costs nothing, tattoos are expensive, but not that much, doing it bit by bit with $200 pieces could cover his body quite fast with a very little paycheck, the only thing I don't know about are the horns, but I'm pretty sure this could all be done over a few years with a below average paycheck.

But if you can BUY certain expensive things it means you have ACCESS to a lot of money.

Acting a certain way == making a lot

Buying certain things = access to a lot of money.

Maybe, but iirc some of the more extreme body mods I’ve seen were on individuals working very low, entry level types of jobs, and often had massive debt from taking out personal loans to fund their obsession. I might be out of line to say so, but anyone who modifies their body so heavily like this is probably not a mentally or emotionally functional enough person to maintain something like a career, employment or self made.

11

u/skrena 13d ago

I was on vacation when I was 5 y/o. Lady working the gift shop had 3 eyebrow piercings and her nose piercing ripped out the night before in a fight (presumedly). That’s enough to make you only pierce your ears and places people can’t see.

The amount of times I caught my piercings on things, I can’t imagine having one on my face catch on something.

5

u/AlistarDark 13d ago

I was in the independent pro-wrestling scene here and I took a knee to the nose from a moonsault when I was catching the guy. His kneepad caught one of my nose rings, destroyed the ring and tore a nice little hole in my nose. Nothing major at least but lots of blood, got me a few extra bucks for bleeding. So I got the 2 scars from the rings and a nice line below the 3rd hole.

Yeah a lot of these are just bad choices. Body modification is awesome but there's some things that just aren't viable choices, even if they can look cool. Which they don't even most of the time. Too hard to maintain, not good for you, what have you. I wouldn't judge aloud but man that dude is gonna regret most of not all of that so bad later on.

I'd ask him what type of implant is in his horns. I'd also ask how many tattoos he got from a person before he let them tattoo his eyes, because if it was less than 100 I could never.

And then I'd ask if he has any dietary restrictions, not due to the piercings but just because its polite if you're inviting someone over for dinner.

u/blackoutc0de 13d ago

wait those are horns??? i thought they were some cartoon hammer hit bump

I dunno why, but that second bit has me giggling, as though that's how you would ask verbatim. "Do you have dietary restrictions? Not due to the piercings.."

Not gonna lie... I am with the boomers here. Like... Just... Why. Okay, you like it, cool, but... This honestly just looks like shit

u/Noobytecky 13d ago

Yeah,I'm a teenager too,I don't have a good reason nor justification for it.Just no lol.

Heck,I'm sure as hell my parents would say no too lol

41

u/BEAMeUPScuT 13d ago

I'm pretty sure the generation that comes after millennials is going to say WTF is this?

It's expensive, it's uncomfortable, it's useless, and I just want to enjoy life not paying money to become a bathroom stall door in Gary, Indiana.

14

u/butmustig 13d ago

Millennial here. I’m annoyed at everyone here doing backflips to prove how kind and tolerant they are as if they wouldn’t stay the hell away from this guy if they say him in real life

I have a good reason, not all conformity is bad. I’m happy every charger I own can plug into any wall, or my car can fill up at any station. Conformity is the bedrock of society.

Here I see an individual. Which hey, everyone has things that make them unique. But this is so out there it begs the question are they mentally healthy, and further I’d need a LOT of convincing that this person will be able to conform to being a part of the family. I don’t know how good of a relationship I have with my parents relative to you, but I know I’d want them in my children’s life. I know they’d be good to them. I hope that my partner would be loved by them, because we ALL are stronger as a team.

u/______ila 13d ago

Lol no, the average person would say he looks ridiculous and emotionally unstable.

The average person also doesn’t go and mass downvote on this thread

7

u/ThatDude8129 13d ago

Ditto. There's a point where you realize that you may have gotten too many and this dude doesn't seem to have recognized that.

Don’t have a daughter, but if she’s into this kind of shit then why would I care? Long as he treats her right.

82

u/mygwhatupmyboiii 13d ago

I like to think I’m a good person. I try my best not to judge and try to see things from everyone’s perspective, but if I’m being completely honest, this would freak me out a bit at first. Dude is probably very chill though.

27

u/00-AdAstra-00 13d ago

With you. The answer to this terrible memes question is "extend against my inherent biases and see what she found interesting about him"

I don't have a daughter (I do have a son) and I trust that at some point my kid isn't my responsibility anymore. So I'll advise if asked. But what? I'm going to support them and their decisions.

I don’t have children, but I’d like to think that my biggest concern regarding their partner would be that my child was happy and loved.

25

u/StopPsychHealers 13d ago

Not gonna lie, I scrolled a ways down to find a comment this reasonable. Would have thought not judging, based off appearances, was a low bar. Plus even if he did have mental health issues, maybe she does too, people with mental health issues deserve love if they're not assholes.

15

u/Curated_absurdity 13d ago

Exactly. 20-some years ago, I was an adolescent punk rock kid, and so were my friends. We looked like scoundrels, but we were the ones concerned with explicit consent, fair treatment, etc. Things typically got murkier with the clean-cut kids. That’s not a hard and fast rule, obviously, but it just goes to show that different doesn’t equal dangerous.

If he treats her right and isn't an obnoxious ass then cool.

8

u/punkalution 13d ago

why would it matter? if he treated my child right i wouldn't give a shit about how he looks

21

u/SaiyanOverlord8971 13d ago

Ey if he treats my daughter with respect, is nice to her, and she loves him then🤷🏾‍♂️ spent too much time as a black man being looked at like I’m something wrong cause of my skin, I can’t do that to someone else

14

u/x4evermor3x 13d ago

I hear you brother. However we didn't choose to be black. This guy chose to look like this. Huge difference But I agree with the rest of your comment. Respect for keeping an open mind.

7

u/SaiyanOverlord8971 13d ago

I mean yes he did make this choice, but that’s the point about my daughter then. She made the choice to be with him and if he respects her and loves her then I mean 🤷🏾‍♂️judging him based off the image he portrays wouldn’t be right

I wouldn’t care as long as he was financially taking care of himself and able to contribute to their lives. Seems like oftentimes people that have so many modifications are not able to find and keep jobs.

u/Thick_Improvement_77 13d ago

Uh, I'm guessing " realize that being a parent doesn't actually give me any say in my daughter's love life" isn't the right answer?

Yeah, so. I'm not gonna pretend. I wouldn't approve. Period. The internet can shame me all they want, but this dude would not be invited post the first meeting. I would have a long conversation with my child to understand what specifically is the attraction so I can understand.

But initial meet? Hell no.

8

u/cyberodraggy 13d ago

I'm with you on this. I've seen enough story and examples to know that behind that face can be a good, even great person. But that's only enough to supress my urge to get ze flammenwerfer.

I will sit down and talk to my daughter, to see if she's alright, to understand better. BUT I will be watching.

33

u/TrenchcoatBabyKAZ2Y5 13d ago

Implying you’d at least be open minded to hearing from your daughter and giving said dude a chance? If that’s the case I can’t say that’s horrible. Gut reactions can be brutal. Sometimes people need a chance to adjust.
