Gonna be the last 5 years of machine learning hype in data marketing at large scale. Lots of good opportunities to sell bullshit 'solutions' to highly regarded C-suites.

If you want a picture of the future, imagine automatic chat generators arguing with each other about semi-coherent nonsense -- forever.
10
u/yorklebit Feb 07 '23
Quotable
Also isn't this what WE are (sorta). How many belief systems are out there that seem to have little to do with reality. And even the ones that are empirically based often have nonsense components, parts that are found out to be false, etc.
I mean look at some of the stuff in this sub. And then all over Reddit. Maybe it's ultimately same as it ever was...
5
u/ApocalypseSpokesman Feb 07 '23
Sir, this is a... hold on let me check my notes... "forum for discussing all manner of human interest topics"? I guess you may proceed with your potentially apt comparison of humans with thoughtless though expensive automatons.

I think Microsoft has more private enterprise communications with outlook, teams and the office suite.
9
u/Hacking_the_Gibson Feb 07 '23
What difference does that make? Email and video call servers are not the same as advanced machine learning.
1
u/nul42 Feb 07 '23
Once the AI tool is added to these products it starts collecting the data. How well it works at beginning doesn't matter. It has to learn how to speak corporate which I don't think it can learn by harvesting Reddit posts. First it does the minutes of your conference calls, later it runs the call. Eventually you can buy MS payroll which replaces the department and employees. Finally, you buy MS office which replaces the whole office and employees.
4
u/ComprehensiveBoss815 Feb 07 '23
Yeah, but have you used teams/outlook? It's a nightmare corporate world. Never again.

u/second-last-mohican Feb 07 '23

AI can become Googles Waterloo or as they say at Meta, Facebooks meta.
22
u/gaurav0792 Icahn Put Deez Nuts in your Mouth Feb 06 '23
I'd trust google to rollout something much better than Microsoft.
Microsoft screws up things they've been doing for decades on a daily basis.21
u/international862_ Feb 06 '23
Ever try to import a picture into Word or move a table between any of their shitty office apps? Case in point
4
u/ComprehensiveBoss815 Feb 07 '23
Also better than Facebook's rollout process. I've been stuck in their half-baked mobile webUI for the last month. Half the shit doesn't work. Definitely killing my minimal desire to use FB to almost nothing.

Google owns a 100% of their own AI, even if it’s just an internal tool for now. Can’t say the same for microsoft and chatgpt. Google can definitely do more with theirs.
11
u/Fun_Entrepreneur_254 Feb 07 '23
Likely already has done more, apart from letting 100mm access it.
2
u/Hacking_the_Gibson Feb 07 '23
This is probably inaccurate as I am assuming under the hood the search spider and SERP display use AI. It is likely that billions are exposed to it and they simply don’t know it.
Further, most of the heavy hitters at OpenAI came out of Google anyway.
1
u/Fun_Entrepreneur_254 Feb 07 '23
I specifically said access, because I agree that it’s most definitely been to exposed to far more than 100mm people. Curious stuff

u/Odd_Explanation3246 Feb 07 '23

Training with AMD currently at parity...
Training with AMD after MI300 launches later this year will give them a hefty lead.
1
u/ComprehensiveBoss815 Feb 07 '23
AMD just isn't used that much. They need to be better AND improve their hardware's support in the popular ML frameworks.

Ride the pump and then dump ! I’ve seen the mental gymnastics this so called “AI” can do. Not really impressed.
Edit : however as a tool, it will change the job market somewhat. It has more code writing skills than 75% of the old twitter staff.

I'm as much of a gambler as the next guy, just need to know how this'll be measured. Daily users? Do these things bring in ad revenue? How long do we give Bard to catch up?

I think it will become apparent once released.A good measure might be to see if Bing gets more DAU's / market share.
It will be a Sundar Pichai moment again, because he basically sold the idea and implementation of Chrome @ google.
I'd love to see an AI vs AI Mortal Kombat death match.
5
u/nononononofin Feb 07 '23
I think the odds of Bing surpassing Google in DAU are below 1%. And bordering on 0%.
There might be other ways in which ChatGPT enhances Microsoft’s business, but I don’t think this is it. People have been using Google religiously for decades. And for good reason. I can find pretty much anything I want on Google in one search.
As someone who really likes ChatGPT and uses it all the time: I think it’s honestly kinda gimmicky. There’s no way I’d use Bing over Google, just cause it implemented ChatGPT into the network.
2
u/gaurav0792 Icahn Put Deez Nuts in your Mouth Feb 07 '23
The biggest problem I have with ChatGPT is it doesn't seem to care / know when it's wrong. In this way it's a lot like some humans.
Google might be able to solve this problem instantly by adding references / sources, and I assume they will be better at it than microsoft.
2
u/Hacking_the_Gibson Feb 07 '23
This is correct.
The fact is that ChatGPT in its current form is basically a summarizing tool for Wikipedia. Given the speed of deployment, it is pretty likely Google already has this in production, they are just going to make some room in their SERP for the narrative response.

Shared the exact same sentiment a while ago. It’s a very human feature, but not something I’d want from a search engine.

2
u/TwoDurans Feb 07 '23
This is Snapchat 2.0. Google is building a better mouse trap and once the kids grow bored of GPT its days are numbered. Right now everyone likes ChatGPT but they'll need to turn a profit eventually. The amount of computing power and data centers required to run it must cost a fortune and without a large infrastructure like Google has I don't see anyone with an AI bot making money or lasting.
3
u/castlemastle Feb 07 '23
True but OpenAI is partnered with Microsoft. Of the product really really takes off, no way they won't have access to M$ infra.
2
u/BreachlightRiseUp Feb 07 '23
My bet would be for Google to smash them, hard to beat a company as resource and talent rich as they are in something they’re determined to do

Google easily has the majority of market data for inquiries. They admitted they already had this technology, but kept it behind closed doors. If you don’t think they haven’t fed their AI every inquiry ever put into google you’re probably not thinking.
But yeah, AI wars are now public knowledge for sure. Lots of ostriches with their heads in the sand though

Chat GPT says:
"As an AI language model, I don't have personal opinions or the ability to place bets. However, it's always interesting to see advancements in the field of AI and natural language processing. Competition can drive innovation and lead to better experiences for users."
The fact people are amazed by this total tit of random word generation just speaks volumes of the sad state of humanity. I know for a fact that the people making this happen are just glad the whole thing doesn't spontaneously catch fire.

"AI" is where all crypto bros are fleeing to. Don't get too excited. The paper that made these things happen (Attention is All You Need) came (from Google) few years ago but back then those crypto bros (that are now AI experts) were telling us "have fun staying poor"
Don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful technology. But like many other things "the last 20% will take another 180% work".
3
u/needspantsu Feb 06 '23
Chat bots or AI in general? Crypto has always had a difficult time finding usefulness. AI has been slowly surrounding us for over a decade now, from financial fraud detection to YouTube algorithms. The public just never really noticed because it's been mostly backend till now.
0
u/foadsf Feb 07 '23
Google is truly the most stupid company at the moment. They had all the resources needed to develop a chatbot ages ago, yet for some reasons they failed to do so. A small NPO beat them to it, and now they are loosing their $#it over it. And what kind of name is Bard?! Why is Google so bad at naming their products?
-6
u/redditbebigmad Feb 06 '23
Everything google does is shit.
6
u/cs_referral Feb 07 '23
What search engine do you use? Duckduckgo?
3
u/redditbebigmad Feb 07 '23
Theyre all based off google regardless. But i use brave browser and its built in search. The automatic ad block is a game changer.
2
u/cs_referral Feb 07 '23
Theyre all based off google regardless.
Did a quick skim and it seems that Duckduckgo search engine is based on Wikipedia and results from other search engines.
But yeah, I also use Brave browser for the AdBlock feature for YouTube. Not sure how well Brave search engine is tho as I basically don't use it.
